<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Irondequoit Quilt Club met last night. The usual agenda took place - Pledge of Allegiance, announcements, upcoming club quilt show information, Wounded Warrior quilts information, fat quarter exchange, raffle and of course show and tell. We were also treated to a wonderful presentation by quilt club member Deb Thomas.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Deb's presentation was all about rapid fire tools made by Deb Tucker. She highlighted two rulers in particular, the Hunter's Star and the Lemoyne Star.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This pattern is call <i>SueNami</i> and was designed by a member of Deb Tucker's family, her sister-in-law Sue Tucker. The bases of this quilt pattern uses the Hunter Star ruler and the Wing Clipper I ruler.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Merrilee and Nick look at the similarities between using the larger Hunter Star ruler and the smaller Hunter Star ruler. Both are dramatic.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />Next Deb spoke about the Lemoyne Star ruler and showed a few samples of quilts made with it. This quilt has all the different size stars that you can make with the ruler. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial;">The last quilt that Deb showed was <i>Pop Stars</i>. This quilt is made using 40 - 2 1/2" wide strips, with the addition of a light, a medium and a dark fabric. This quilt as well as the other quilts shown are all made using a strip piecing method with no y-seams. How cool is that?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;">Irondequoit Quilt Club meeting's program last night gave us all a new way to see how some new tools just might make it a little easier to piece some of our more tired and true quilt blocks.</span><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: arial;">How many of you belong to a guild? Does your guild seem to be always searching for the next group quilt project to do? Let me share with you an exhibit from a guild in Italy that was on loan to MQX. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial;">Beginning in 2010, the enthusiastic members of Casa Patchwork and Quilting Guild began a journey of creating "banners" to represent the four seasons. The only rules were to use three basic colors to represent each season and the finished banner needed to measure 6" wide by 60" long. I present to you the four seasons as interpreted by the members of Casa Patchwork and Quilting Guild of Bassano Del Grappa, Italy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: arial;">Andrea Brokenshire has a true eye for nature and its beauty. At MQX she had a wonderful exhibit entitled Flora Bota'nica. It displayed realistic botanical imagery, that is based on her photography. These works of art were created by applique and thread painting. Andrea combines her love of the natural world and fabric with in her art quilts. Here are two quilts from this exquisite display.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As many of you know I am a big fan of continuous learning; both as a student and as a teacher. Last week was my turn to learn at the Machine Quilters Exposition in New Hampshire.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WAIF0WjpqXo/U01nmZJ8lUI/AAAAAAAABVk/ugP_TxUoEH0/s1600/MQX+Sign+140411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WAIF0WjpqXo/U01nmZJ8lUI/AAAAAAAABVk/ugP_TxUoEH0/s1600/MQX+Sign+140411.jpg" height="320" width="264" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was fortunate enough to take both creative and technical classes from some really wonderful instructors. All the classes I took will help me enhance and deliver more beautiful and professional quilting to my customers.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">While attending the festival I ran into a few friends. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My longtime friend Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works was teaching at MQX.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hq0RioOFdiU/U01qkpJ9ZsI/AAAAAAAABVw/hBSbf_zUMgo/s1600/Jackie+Kunkel+140411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hq0RioOFdiU/U01qkpJ9ZsI/AAAAAAAABVw/hBSbf_zUMgo/s1600/Jackie+Kunkel+140411.jpg" height="320" width="291" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Her online shop is not only a Judy Niemeyer certified shop, but Jackie herself is a certified Judy Niemeyer instructor. </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> She was very busy teaching a few Judy Niemeyer classes - A Party for Four; Sunflower Illusions; Charm Elements. Be sure to check out <a href="http://www.cvquiltworks.com/">Jackie's website</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had the pleasure of seeing and talking to some of the designers that create all those wonderful quilting designs that I use on your quilts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is Anne Bright of <a href="http://www.annebright.com/">Anne Bright designs</a>. Many of my customers (you know who your are) spend their lunch hour perusing her website for designs for their next quilt.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qWgv2PaUp0Y/U01sj4HXmRI/AAAAAAAABV8/Tz5pPSiLM8M/s1600/Anne+Bright+140411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qWgv2PaUp0Y/U01sj4HXmRI/AAAAAAAABV8/Tz5pPSiLM8M/s1600/Anne+Bright+140411.jpg" height="320" width="264" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of the very first instructor I had when I purchased my Gammill with Statler Sticher was Kim Diamond. Kim's instruction over the years has been invaluable to me. It was such a great joy for me to see her at MQX last week. I was also fortunate to meet Janet who works with Kim at <a href="http://www.sweetdreamsquiltstudio.com/">Sweet Dreams Quilt Studio</a>. Kim's designs are always the ones that all of you seem to search out for those quilts that you want to make great impact. All those custom and beautiful whole cloth baby quilts. I had such a great time meeting up with Janet and Kim.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Mf7ud1dz5vo/U01uVPzlcTI/AAAAAAAABWI/GNVM7YvIdfI/s1600/Janet+and+Kim+Sweet+Dream+140411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Mf7ud1dz5vo/U01uVPzlcTI/AAAAAAAABWI/GNVM7YvIdfI/s1600/Janet+and+Kim+Sweet+Dream+140411.jpg" height="228" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I don't think that a quilt show would be complete without some other famous people stopping by as well. I'm sure that all of you know Mark Lipinski.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-48ciXod-Nss/U01uyL6UVeI/AAAAAAAABWQ/pwbNOFYZVtw/s1600/Kim,+Mark+Lipinski+and+Kathy+140411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-48ciXod-Nss/U01uyL6UVeI/AAAAAAAABWQ/pwbNOFYZVtw/s1600/Kim,+Mark+Lipinski+and+Kathy+140411.jpg" height="300" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well there you have it. Some of the most important people that I have in my life as a longarm quilter. Without these great people I would not be able to do my job for you with enormous confidence and success.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">Until next time…</span> <br />

<span style="font-family: arial;">As I took a break from longarm quilting to have lunch, I couldn't help but notice all the snow coming down outside. I wanted to share with you what nature had to offer today in my backyard other than snow.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On a frosty below zero January night the Irondequoit Quilt Club meeting was held. Brrrrrrr..... One favorite part of all of the meetings is Show and Tell. It is truly amazing how warm it can become with some friendship and color. Here are just a few of the beautiful quilts that some of the members shared.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Laurie made this quilt with the intention of giving it away. Once she finished it, she decided that she really needed to keep it even though she has no blue in her home! I'm sure that someday one of her children will be the recipient of this beautiful quilt. </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Nick showed a quilt that he uses as a wall hanging in his home. He must have sooooommmmmme wall in his house.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i9cOIOl7OOE/UuvsRowqPSI/AAAAAAAABUQ/de4FCZI2SgI/s1600/Nick's+Wall+Hanging+140127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i9cOIOl7OOE/UuvsRowqPSI/AAAAAAAABUQ/de4FCZI2SgI/s1600/Nick's+Wall+Hanging+140127.jpg" height="290" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Lucy brought us two quilts to admire. The first is a quilt that one of our members taught as a class. Lucy did a beautiful job with her color selection on this one.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R5YDM95vqF4/Uuvsiv-sVjI/AAAAAAAABUY/quSgpgvKeQw/s1600/Lucy+w+Buzz+Saw+140127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R5YDM95vqF4/Uuvsiv-sVjI/AAAAAAAABUY/quSgpgvKeQw/s1600/Lucy+w+Buzz+Saw+140127.jpg" height="320" width="314" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Her second quilt was much larger. She spent many hours on this beauty hand piecing all those stars.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-58szD8RHGZc/UuvtIGgU8PI/AAAAAAAABUg/wHRlgKo8I5o/s1600/Lucy+w+Stars+140127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-58szD8RHGZc/UuvtIGgU8PI/AAAAAAAABUg/wHRlgKo8I5o/s1600/Lucy+w+Stars+140127.jpg" height="259" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well there you have it. A few quilts from Show and Tell that brought lots of warmth and happiness to an otherwise blustery winter evening.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial;">Until next time…</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">Happy Quilting,</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In the deep freeze this past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful trunk show at Patricias' a local quilt store in Rochester,NY. This was no ordinary trunk show. It was a Downton Abbey trunk show complete with tea!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When you entered the parlor you were greeted by Lady Catherine. She offered a spot of English rose tea. It was just delightful!</span><br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You were invited to look at all the beautiful quilts, dresses, bags, tea cozies and more items which were made from the beautiful Downton Abbey line of fabrics from <a href="http://andoverfabrics.com/Grid.php?groupId=25719&GroupName=Downton%20Abbey">Andover</a>. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: arial;">You might remember I mentioned in an earlier post about the Irondequoit Quilt Club making quilt blocks to be pieced into quilts for Wounded Warriors at Fort Drum, NY. The guild gave those who wanted to make blocks each month a fat quarter each of red, blue and white fabrics. I have completed two blocks. One for March and one for April.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i>March 2013 BOM Antique Tile</i></span></td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">April 3013 BOM Mrs. Taft's Choice</span></i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">Each month the blocks are collected and then either someone from the local quilt shop, or someone from the Irondequoit Quilt Club pieced them into quilt tops.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;">At the April meeting this beautiful top was presented to Judy Merritt, the owner of <a href="http://cafesewcietyquilts.com/">Cafe Sewciety </a>quilt shop in Webster.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;">Judy explains to all of us how much these quilts mean not only to the soldiers but their families as well. The goal is to make sure each wounded soldier is given a quilt either when they arrive or when they leave Fort Drum.</span><br />

creating patterns for fabric companies and magazines? Many of the members of

<span style="font-family: arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of the best parts of going to MQX is seeing all my friends that I have made over the years. Three friends of mine can always be found in the Quilts of Valor booth. That was one of the first places that I stopped.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I arrived at the booth, I was just in time to see Holly accepting this beautiful quilt. The women pictured was thrilled to be able to donate this quilt. She brings at least one each year to MQX.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;">Last week was that time of year again. Time to renew and regenerate my quilting education. So off to New Hampshire for the New England Quilt Festival. (aka MQX - Machine Quilters Exposition)</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-family: arial;">I want to share with you a special exhibit that was on display. Four friends from Ohio got together one weekend and went on a quilt retreat together at the Historic Mill in Yellow Springs Ohio.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anna Fricker, Susan Hill, Chris Landis, Mary Miller</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">While on this retreat they decided they would make bargello quilts using a design in the August 2011 issue of Better Homes and Garden. They took this project to new heights; all four women used the exact same fabrics for the bargello.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Hanging from the 3rd story window.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">With a pile of 464 two-inch strips and strips set at 174 inches long, they realized that maybe, just maybe they should have read the complete directions before beginning. They each completed piecing their respective bargellos. Once they left the retreat each one cut the massive bargello, added borders and created two quilts! Here are the results of their weekend retreat. Can you tell which two quilts came from the same bargello?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;">Many of you have asked me what personal project(s) am I working on. Today I thought I would share with you one project that I have started.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4uwnQIyh_x0/UUAYP_iEUJI/AAAAAAAABEw/_VL2DY7AxX8/s1600/Pile+of+trimmings+130313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="198" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4uwnQIyh_x0/UUAYP_iEUJI/AAAAAAAABEw/_VL2DY7AxX8/s320/Pile+of+trimmings+130313.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Trimmings, trimmings and more trimmings.</span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">I was watching a video on You-tube that Cozy Quilt Designs posted about a month ago. Daniela, the owner, had attended <i>The Road to California Show</i> and was inspired by the modern quilts on display. She came up with a pattern called <i>Parallel Universe</i>. I really liked what I saw and decided that I too could make a modern quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">I first ordered the pattern, and then went to my local quilt shop to purchase some fabric for this quilt. I know what you are thinking - 'She has lots of fabric. I've seen some of her stash!' I did not have enough yardage for my background fabric, inner and outer borders. I did have plenty of black and white fabrics to use.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xFMKk155B8g/UUFFksHjf-I/AAAAAAAABFU/4f7gto2ptDA/s1600/Fabric+Selection+130313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="284" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xFMKk155B8g/UUFFksHjf-I/AAAAAAAABFU/4f7gto2ptDA/s320/Fabric+Selection+130313.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Fabric selection.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">This quilt uses the strip tube method. So I started making my strip sets and tubes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">Then it was time to cut up, cut down and create all those half-square triangle blocks.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--d2BWmKCYvg/UUAWF_fSLBI/AAAAAAAABEc/L6wFW3Q7nQs/s1600/Cut+up+cut+down+130313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="146" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--d2BWmKCYvg/UUAWF_fSLBI/AAAAAAAABEc/L6wFW3Q7nQs/s320/Cut+up+cut+down+130313.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Cut up, cut down ...</span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">Once the cutting was done, I pressed all the blocks using <i>Best Press</i>. When you use the strip tube method to cut half-square triangles, you need to be careful handling the edges of the finished block. All the edges are bias. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">All the blocks needed to be squared.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R5yhLAlLwLg/UUAWWpwQ4CI/AAAAAAAABEo/x_lbu0X2YPY/s1600/Squaring+the+blocks+130313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="193" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R5yhLAlLwLg/UUAWWpwQ4CI/AAAAAAAABEo/x_lbu0X2YPY/s320/Squaring+the+blocks+130313.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Squaring all the blocks.</span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">I decided on a layout and started to sew the blocks together. </span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Vertical sashing is added to blocks.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;">I still need to add the borders, quilt it, bind it and put a label on.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">Here is the You-tube Cozy Quilt Design video if you would like to be inspired to make an easy modern quilt.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is a glimpse of the quilting on this adorable chevron baby quilt.</span> <br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The entire quilt measures only thirty-six inches wide by forty-eight inches long. Some lucky baby is going to be wrapped in a whole lot of love!</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3gDMjJoO9YI/UTT74b1wFxI/AAAAAAAABDA/7dA0VOxHez4/s1600/whole+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3gDMjJoO9YI/UTT74b1wFxI/AAAAAAAABDA/7dA0VOxHez4/s320/whole+quilt.jpg" width="231" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Baby Chevron Quilt.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="font-family: arial;">This <i>Baby Chevron</i> quilt used a total of
forty-eight half-square triangle units. (twenty-four pink/white and
twenty-four grey/white units) They started with six pink 10" squares,
six grey 10" squares and twenty white 10" squares.</span> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">If you would like to see how this quilt was constructed check out this video on making a chevron quilt from half-square triangles.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">If you choose to make a chevron quilt using this method, you need to note that the edges of the resulting half-square triangles are all bias. Be sure to use care when pressing these units. You may want to use a product like <i>Best Press</i> when doing any pressing using this technique.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">This quilt takes no time at all to piece. If you decide to make a Chevron quilt please let me know about it. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">One of the local quilt shops here has a monthly tea where they talk about their upcoming classes and everyone is invited to bring show and tell. This past week's meeting was a little different. The quilt shop decided to give a short demo.</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q7b3SGAp8uI/UR57KBb4SFI/AAAAAAAAA_E/r_obLm3xGII/s320/Strip+Tube+Ruler+TC+logo+130213.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="320" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Strip Tube Ruler<span style="font-size: xx-small;">TM</span> by Cozy Quilt Designs</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Many of those in attendance had heard of The Strip Tube Ruler<span style="font-size: xx-small;">TM</span> by Cozy Quilt Designs but had not seen it in action. It is quite clever!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Strips of fabric are sewn together creating a tube. </span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Tube of Fabrics.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The ruler is then placed on the fabric tube and with a rotary cutter; triangle units are cut by flipping the ruler.</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Placing The Strip Tube Ruler<span style="font-size: xx-small;">TM</span>.</span></td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The triangle units are then opened to create half-square triangle units.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: arial;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">One of our local shops this week had its monthly tea. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yx2bRsbs_Os/UH-Ar3QdVLI/AAAAAAAAA1o/8raSi3_tYbg/s1600/Scarlet+Thread+header+121017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="113" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yx2bRsbs_Os/UH-Ar3QdVLI/AAAAAAAAA1o/8raSi3_tYbg/s320/Scarlet+Thread+header+121017.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">Susan Rooney, a local designer gave a trunk show of some of her new patterns. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-82oOVBX2rFk/UH-A4FqWWUI/AAAAAAAAA1w/b1oHrm03jfs/s1600/Susan+Rooney+Explains+applique.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-82oOVBX2rFk/UH-A4FqWWUI/AAAAAAAAA1w/b1oHrm03jfs/s320/Susan+Rooney+Explains+applique.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">One of the most exciting things that Susan had to tell us was her patterns are now being carried by Brewers. It is soooo much fun to see everything that Susan creates - her ideas are never ending.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">Thanks to Susan we also got to see some new Benartex fabrics that they will be introducing at Quilt Market later this month. Susan featured some of their fabrics in her samples! If you go to Market be sure to check out the Benartex booth and see the <i>Susan Rooney Patterns</i>' samples.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial;">We are all so very happy and thrilled for Susan and these new opportunities for her.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial;">Thank you Scarlet Thread for supporting a local designer and bringing her to your October Tea so that all of us were able to see what is new in the industry.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial;">Until next time…</span>
<span style="font-family: arial;"> </span><br />
